As a social media strategist, the first question I ask myself when optimizing social media ads is where is my audience? For any social media campaign to succeed, it needs to reach the right people. Nowadays, every social media platform offers an advertising tool for your business to avail of. However, as a social media strategist I have seen companies blatantly lose money by implementing social media ads and targeting the wrong audience. As competition rises between social media advertising platforms, it is imperative that you are wisely showcasing your ads to those who matter. LinkedIn differs as it is a social media targeting professionals and boasts usership of over 500 million active professionals on their site. Their custom audience options targets your audience by selecting things like job title, industry, team size and location.

When designing and applying your social media strategy, any social media strategist will tell you that all content supplied by your business needs to be mobile friendly.

Developments in mobile have gained huge momentum in recent years, with Google reporting that searches on mobile have surpassed searches made on desktop. As a social media strategist, I have seen the upward trends regarding social media advertisements. Mid - 2016, saw 84% of Facebook’s revenue coming from mobile advertising with LinkedIn reporting 86% of its revenue coming from mobile devices also. Clearly, if you want your businesses’ social media advertising to succeed, your advertisement must have a fully functioning on all mobile devices.

Being a social media strategist, I hold desktop and mobile as equals advertising platforms that must be utilized. For the first time ever, we are living in an age where mobile internet has entered the same usage territory as desktop, as Larry Page from Google said;

“We are no longer in a mobile first world, we are in a mobile only world”

Nowadays, the content you create has to cater for an overwhelming amount of mobile users. Like I have mentioned previously as a social media strategist, you have to compete over a range of platforms to reach your audience. Once you have reached your audience, you now need to engage with them. Consumers are inundated with sales pitches and requests to ‘buy now’. As a social media strategist, I understand that potential customers can become immune to your social media posts if you are constantly bombarding them with advertisements. However, if you were to offer them interesting content that grabs their attention, they are more likely to stay and investigate the business behind the content. Having this mix of entertaining content and informative advertisements can really enhance your social media marketing.
